What executive rehab is, and what it is not
Executive rehab is residential or outpatient treatment set up for people with demanding jobs. The clinical core is the same as any good program: an assessment, therapy, medicine where it helps, and a plan for after discharge. What changes is the structure around it. Expect a small number of clients, a private room, a quiet place to work, and rules about phones and laptops agreed in advance.
The risk is that work access becomes the program. If your loved one spends four hours a day on calls, those are four hours without treatment. Good executive programs set limits with the client and the clinical team, then adjust them as recovery settles.
Many professionals worry about their job. Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) rules say eligible employees can use leave for substance use treatment given by a health care provider (29 CFR 825.119). The rule has limits, so check with HR or an employment lawyer before you rely on it.

What good care looks like for a professional
- Work contact with limits. A set window each day, agreed with the clinical team, and a plan to cut it back if it gets in the way.
- Privacy you can check. Ask how many clients are on site, whether there are private suites, and how visitors and deliveries are screened.
- Real clinical hours. Ask for the weekly schedule in hours: individual therapy, groups, psychiatry visits and family sessions.
- Licensed clinicians. Ask for names and look them up with the Florida Department of Health license search.
- A return-to-work plan. Good programs plan the first weeks back: hours, travel, client dinners where alcohol is served, and follow-up care.
Privacy has legal weight too. Substance use treatment records have extra federal protection under 42 CFR Part 2, which limits when a program can share them without written consent. Ask the center to explain, in writing, who it will talk to and when: employer, board, family or lawyer.
Some executives cannot step away for a month. Medically supervised concierge rehab at home, sometimes with a sober companion, may fit instead. Our guide to confidential rehab covers privacy in more depth.
Florida centers that describe executive programs are spread across the state. Our guides to Palm Beach, Naples and the Gulf Coast and Miami and Fort Lauderdale list more centers to research.

Executive rehab questions
Can I keep working during executive rehab?
Some programs allow limited, scheduled work time. Whether it is wise depends on your health and on how work connects to your drinking or drug use. Ask the clinical team, not only admissions, and get the rules in writing before you arrive.
Will my employer find out?
Not from the program, unless you agree. 42 CFR Part 2 generally requires written consent before a program shares records that identify you. If you take FMLA leave, your employer can ask for a medical certification, so ask HR what the form will show.
How long do executive programs last?
It varies by center and by need. NIDA notes that residential stays often run from a few weeks to a few months, and some people need longer care. Be wary of any program that promises a fixed result in a fixed number of days. See how long rehab lasts.
Is executive rehab different from luxury rehab?
The terms overlap. Executive usually means the program plans around work and privacy. Luxury usually refers to the setting. Neither word is a license or an accreditation, so check both of those on their own.
